PARISH AND SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS
In accordance with the Diocese of Cleveland Policy for the Safety of Children In Matters of Sexual Abuse (aka, The Virtus Policy), all persons wanting to volunteer at St. Augustine Church or School must first submit to a State of Ohio background check (via fingerprint analysis). Although the policy denotes sexual abuse in its title, the policy covers over 47 forms of abuse under Ohio Codified Law, not just sexual abuse. For the purpose of this policy, the definition of a volunteer is anyone who works with children more than four hours a month or who works with children more frequently than once a month. If the results of the background check is successful, the perspective volunteer is then required to attend a Virtus Policy training program. A satisfactory background check and a certificate of Virtus Policy Training completion is required before any person may volunteer at the school.
